Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education in Queensland state schools 2018 report card
The Department of Education’s commitment to improving educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Queensland state schools is reflected in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education 2018 report card.
The 2018 report card was developed to share strategies that contribute to educational improvements. It was also used as a consultation tool to determine educational priorities for the next 4 years.
Some of the 2018 report card’s highlights include:
- a significant increase in Year 12 students obtaining a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA)
- an increase in number of Year 3 students at or above NAPLAN Reading
- greater retention rate for Years 10–12 students.

National Assessment Program—Literacy and Numeracy

The
National Assessment Program—Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for children to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken nationwide every year, in the second full week in May.

Next Steps Destinations surveys collect information annually about the initial study and employment destinations of young people after leaving school, including Year 12 completers and early school leavers.
On this site you will find statewide and regional information on Indigenous early school leavers and Year 12 completers:
- main destination reported by year and region
- field of study if in education or training
- industry, occupational group and hours worked if in employment, reported by sex
- socioeconomic status.

Australian Bureau of Statistics
