No. 4221.0) Australian Bureau of Statistics annual publication contains statistics on students, schools, and staff involved in the provision or administration of primary and secondary education, in government and non-government schools, for all Australian states and territories.

National Assessment Program—Liter​acy and Numeracy

The National Assessment Program—Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for children to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken nationwide every year. From 2023, tests will be held in March.​

Next Steps destination​s surveys

On this page, you will find statewide and regional information on Indigenous early school leavers and Year 12 completers:

  • main destination reported by year and region
  • field of study if in education or training
  • industry, occupational group and hours worked if in employment, reported by sex
  • socioeconomic status.
